Or, very reasonable consignment fee for superior service. I inspect and research the rod, write the ads, photograph the rod, arrange and complete the sale of the rod and ship it in approximately two to three weeks time from start to finish. I can probably sell your rod for more than you could on your own saving you a lot of time and perhaps even making you more money than if you were to sell the rod yourself. Be sure to tell me the name of the maker, # sections/tips, length, condition, accessories, bag/tube, price, etc. I'll send you the information regarding my consignment terms and conditions. If rod title is blue click on it for a photo. Antique Rods Antique wood and early cane rods are very interesting and so different from the bamboo fly fishing rods build after WWI and beyond. I personally feel that they are one of the most undervalued and under appreciated fishing tackle items as the prices do not accurately reflect the scarcity and uniqueness of what they are and represent. As more and more people start collecting or expand their collections of cane and wood rods, I expect to see the antique (pre-WWI) rods prices to skyrocket in the next 5 years or so.

Bamboo Fly Fishing Rods This
Bamboo Rod List is outdated, Montague Manitou - Very scarce top of the line Montague rod. 9.5' 3/2 all full length. I have two of these in my collection... Non original bag/tube. If you collect Montys you have to have this gorgeous model. You won't believe what a fine fishing instrument this one is... $395. Sold Montague Redwing - Here's an opportunity to buy a top quality and hard to find late era Redwing. This one is a 9' 3/2 rod that is about a 7 wt rod for bass/steelhead. The condition is judged to be in Very Good condition. All sections are original full length and is complete with the original tube (missing cap) but no rod sack. The wraps have had some replaced or overvarnished in order to protect the silk. This rod has been fished and appears to have well used but cared for. $250. Montague Rapidan - One of the most popular rods in the Montague line. These rods have sold for as much as $500 for an 8.5' 3/2 rod in EX+ condition. Here's one that you can save a bundle on... The cane is sound but the ferrules and reel seat have some oxidization and the butt female ferrule is cracked. The paper label is still on the grip and the acetate decal on the rod is about 80-85% intact. Original rod bag included. $125.00. Heddon #10 Blue Water - 9' 3/2 2 3/4F All full length and original. This rod is ready to fish. The 2 3/4F rod taper was voted one of the top 25 tapers by the Rod Makers List. It's about a 7-8wt rod. Great for salmon, bass, steelhead and other big fish. The rod bag is torn but has the original correct label, the NS ferrules fit nicely but a couple are slightly marked from someone probably using pliers on them at one time... The ferrules can easily be cleaned up with a little TLC. Otherwise this powerful rod will help you land some BIG fish that require you to be able to cast the whole fly line out... $245 SOLD Heddon/Weber JA Henshall #3500 - This is a Heddon #35 according to the Heddon book. This rod is in Mint condition. It still has the plastic covering on the grip. It is a 9' 3/2 all full length. It is a 2F ferrule or about a 5wt trout rod. This rod has 3X3 nodes and Resorcinol glue was used. This is a late era rod and was built the way modern rod makers today emulate. The Henshall rod has an black, all aluminum reel seat which is different than the standard Heddon #35 reel seat. The wraps are simple tan wraps. Includes non standard aluminum tube and cloth bag. A Granger Victory Mint rod recently sold for $1,000 which is a low grade Granger. A Heddon #50 sold for $1,600 on eBay in November. While unused, this rod appears to have been displayed, hence original bag/tube has been replaced and one tip has a slight set which can be easily straightened. These mint rods are rarely found these days $550. Sold Heddon #17 Featherweight - 7.5', 2/2, 0 3/4F. High grade Featherweight Heddon marketed by Izaak Walton Leader. This is a #17 grade. NS heavy welted ferrules with a black oxidized finish. Orange/black jasper thread. Standard Heddon reel seat. All sections full length. I had one tip repaired/restored by Wes Cooper. I know where the tip was scarfed but I have spent 10 minutes looking at the tip and I still can't find the spot where he spliced it.... I doubt anyone could notice, especially since I can't see it and I know where it is... Wes's work is guaranteed and he claims that none of his restored tips/joints have EVER failed... I believe it! The rod appears to have had a overcoat of varnish, the butt ferrule was rewrapped. Non original bag and original unmarked tube in poor condition. Maybe it's just luck as Heddons usually had random nodes, but the sections of this rod are staggered 3x3 node spacing... a nice bonus. Overall, this rod is in EX- condition. $625.00. Heddon Featherweight marketed by Shakespeare - 7.5', 2/2, 0 3/4F. Featherweight Heddon marketed by Shakespeare. This rod has been upgraded with Super Z NS ferrules and the rod has been completely restored and is unfished since the restoration. The handwritten card on the tube states this is a New Gypsy model 1231 made by Heddon. All sections are original and full length. This has a Shakespeare reel seat and 1" cork rings so I'd estimate that this would equate to about an #8-10 Heddon model. This rod is in mint restored condition. Non original bag and unmarked aluminum tube in excellent condition. The upgraded ferrules greatly improves the utility of this fine fishing instrument. $595.00. Horrocks - Ibbotson Cunningham - 9' 3/2 in good condition. One tip 2" short. TOP OF THE LINE MODEL. This rod was selling for $36 prior to WWII. I have an ad and you could have bought THREE Granger Champion rods for the price of this rod. Gold or bronzed plated nickel silver hardware, "Super Hexi-Cane" decal on shaft. This is a dark brown toned cane rod. Plating is heavily worn. Needs new stripping guide. Original bag and tube. A quality rod needing a bit of work to return this rod to service. The quality of this rod is equal to Heddons or Grangers... believe it, or not... $125 Sold Horrocks - Ibbotson Governor- 9' 3/2 in VG+ condition. All original full length sections. Original rod bag in fair condition but with holes. Great 1st bamboo rod. Varnish needs a little polishing but is ready to fish. PVC tube included, new rod bag. $150.00 "DeBell?" Private Label - 8.0' 2/1 4-5wt varnished rod marked "Johnny Appleseed's" in spiral writing and comes with non-standard bag and alum. tube. This rod is an awesome trout rod. In near excellent condition excepting the writing is a bit smudged, the rod could use polishing and the wraps are a bit dry. This rod has oxidized Granger NS ferrules and aluminum reel seat. 7 guides plus tip top. If you cast this quality rod, you'll want it! $275 Montague Amateur - 8' 2/1 all sections full length. Originally sold as a single tip model, this rod books at $225. Varnish in VG+ condition, all guides and wraps in good shape. Decal missing but the original paper label on the cork grip is still 50% intact and identifies the rod. New rod cloth case and pvc carry/shipping/storage tube. Post-WWII rod with the green oval decal 80% intact which reads Honor Built, Honor Sold, made in USA. Writing on rod shaft reads A1362 - 8 1/2. Agateen stripping guide, original rod cloth case with original label in excellent condition for it's age. There's a few minor chips in the varnish from use. Includes pvc storage tube. $235 South Bend #323 - 8 1/2' 3/1 High end, quality Dry Fly Trout rod in VG+ condition. Tip section has a fishing set which doesn't affect casting and is about 2" shorter than the sections. Post WWII rod with nickel silver ferrules, Jasper silk thread wraps, Comficient grip with label still partially remains on the cork grip. Original labeled bag and South Bend unlabeled tube. Great fishing rod at a low price! South Bend rods were inspired by Wes Jordan for about 14 years prior to his tenure at Orvis. $145 South Bend #359 - 9' 3/2 Dry Fly Rod in excellent original condition. All sections full length, no repairs. Nickel silver ferrules. Gold foil Comficient Grip decal still on the grip and 95% intact. Original cloth rod case with no label in excellent condition and original rod tube but label has also come off of the tube. A superb casting rod, use a 6wt line. $250 South Bend #57 - 8.5' 3/2 Bass or steelhead rod in VG+ or EX- condition. All sections original full length, no repairs. Oxidized NS ferrules all metal reel seat. Metal work could use polishing. Finish and silk wraps are VG+ and shows honest use. Original labeled rod bag. 7wt rod. If you want a rod able to cast a line to the backing... here you go! $185 F.E. Thomas "The Bangor Rod" - 8.5' 3/2 All sections full length. Stamped on the butt of the reel seat is "o 310". This rod will be restored to excellent condition. This is a "Wet Fly" rod and was built in The tips need to be rewrapped with the correct silk thread and a agate stripping guide needs to be replaced and this rod will be back to excellent condition. Gorgeous early Thomas rod. Beautiful all NS ferrules and down locking reel seat. Seat has some slight dings from honest fishing use. New bag/replacement tube. Under Restoration. Wright McGill True Action Private Label 8.5' 3/2 rod in the shorter length that Granger collectors and looking for. Spare tip about 4 inches shorter than the other 3 full length sections. Rod has 4 guides that need rewrapping or the work was sloppy to make this rod look sharp.. Aluminum reel seat, accessory bag and tube. Tip section appears to have been repaired above the top snake and probably needs a repair wrap for added strength. Butt ferrules need resetting. Off market, sent out for restoration. Antique Bamboo & Other Wood Rods Antique Salmon Rod - Here's the longest rod I've seen! I have researched this rod for a couple of months and have come up empty handed trying to determine who the maker is. This is a consignment rod for sale and is a 18' (yes, that's eighteen feet!) 3 piece rod with 3 tips, 2 mids and 1 butt section. All the rod sections are original full length. It is unmarked but is a mid quality rod. Nickel Plated brass fittings and a hand carved square form case. The condition of this antique is remarkable considering it was built circa 1880's. Photos available upon request. Because of the length (over 6' disassembled), this rod is available for US purchasers only. Price is $200.00 Sold J. B. Daniels circa 1880 Salmon rod - 11ft 4pc/1 tip. Here's a very rare rod! According to A.J. Campbell's book (see pgs 64-67 Classic & Antique Fly-Fishing Tackle), less than 1,000 rods were built by James Barbour Daniels during his 95 years. This maker averaged less than 20 rods per year! This rod I believe was built circa 1880 of Calcutta cane. It featured unique line guides, rattan cane grip and distinctive ferrules that typify the work of this maker. This rod in VG condition however the varnish is a bit crazed and a couple of wraps have been rewrapped. A contemporary of Hiram Leonard, Charlie Wheeler and Fred Thomas but "he out fished and outlived them all". Includes non-original rod bag. Photos shortly. $375 Pre-1881 Henry Pritchard Fly Rod - Here's an earlier unmarked Pritchard 10 1/2' 3/1, greenheart fly rod with a black celluloid grip, floppy ring guides, non waterproofed spiked ferrules (pre-HL Leonard patent in 1875). The ferrules almost look like Kosmic ferrules at my first glance, but they are not. This rod looks almost identical to my other Pritchard that does have the 1881 patent date... same reel seat type, seat length, butt cap, hard rubber/celluloid grip, winding check that I'm almost positive that this one was made by Pritchard. I estimate rod was built circa 1875-1881. Rod comes with a wood carved case. Rod is in very good condition for it's age. some wraps a little frayed and a few intermediates may be missing but the rod sections appear to be all full length. Finish is overall very good except on the butt section about a 6" section is very rough. Tip top is missing. This is a wonderful piece of fly fishing history. $195 George Burtis??? - Here's a beautifully made rod with the distinctive swelled butt with inlaid cedar strips that most dealers attribute to Burtis. 9.5' 3/2 all sections full length, amazingly. This rod in VG condition however the varnish is crazed, a few windings are missing or frayed and it needs a couple of snake guides. Nickeled brass hardware and ferrules and comes with a wood formed case that is canvas covered. $195 Sold Chubb Gold Star Rod - 9' 3/1. Although this rod is unmarked, it is unmistakably the Chubb rod. I'll give a 100% money back guarantee on that. I've seen two on eBay that were identical to this one...This is an early rod circa 1890 split cane construction with loose ring guides. A beautiful rod even today. Reel seat is an up sliding type with a mahogany wood spacer. Sheet cork grip and Chubb ferrules, the predecessor to Montague ferrules. The rod sections are all full length, tip has a fishing set and is missing the original tip top... I can probably find a close replacement and will install. A few windings are coming unwound and a couple intermediates are missing but overall this rod is in very good condition and would be an easy project to make fishable and is a wonderful turn of the century rod to display. $195.00. 1880 circa H. L. Leonard Trout Rod - 10.5' 3/1. This museum piece is in VG condition though the tip section is short by 6". This is a magnificent example of the finest quality and workmanship of the 19th century... Calcutta cane, all nickel silver hardware and waterproofed spiked ferrules, rattan wrapped grip, swelled butt... a prime example of cutting edge technology during the horse and buggy days... see picture on main page. I'd really love to restore this rod, but I've decided to leave this rod in it's original condition. $550.00. Sold 1865 circa C. F. Orvis Salmon Rod - 15' 4/2. Another museum piece. All sections are full length except the spare tip. This rod is in remarkable condition considering it's age. The handle is made of oak, I believe, and the other sections are made of lancewood. Gorgeous relic of the Civil War Era. Serial # 338 marked on the tips. All nickel silver hardware, all the line guides are hand made wire framed agate line guides. The hardware is jewelry grade! The grip is black wrapped cord. The wraps are orange/black and white/black jasper thread. The tips are red wraps. Butt cap is stamped C.F. Orvis, Maker. Manchester VT. This rod comes with the original cloth rod case. I knew Orvis made the best rod cloth cases but it's incredible that this case is still in excellent condition! This rod was built by Charles Orvis himself! This rod weighs a mere 30 ounces! This rod is sooo big, it's impossible to scan... Not for sale. Unmarked Antique 9 1/2' 3/2 Calcutta cane hex rod. Lots of intermediates, guides were amateurishly replaced, varnish crazed... BUT, FABULOUS metal work, all nickel silver, intricate knurled ferrule welts, all NS sliding band with lots of knurling, bands and super fine detail rarely seen. This rod is of the finest quality. This rod might have been made by a custom rod maker of the day and if so, his workmanship must be recognized. All full length, quality tip tube with semi flat brass cap and end cap. $425 Unmarked Thomas H. Chubb Antique 10' 3/2 - 1890-1900 c. Calcutta cane round rod with a GORGEOUS rattan grip. Case has owners name and 1926 date but this rod is earlier. Formed case and canvas outer bag with leather trim. Another quality rod with all NS hardware and fine detailed metal work. All sections full length. varnish is good, but need polish $375 Bait casting & Spinning Rods Heddon Bait Casting Rod #25 circa 1925- This rod was the top model at the time with 1/4" cork rings, walnut foregrip (aka winding check) all genuine agate line guides and agate tip top. There is no decal or writing of the shaft, but the rod is stamped Heddon on the nickel silver reel seat. Only the #25 had the walnut fore grip. The #25 is in original, unrestored condition, varnish is dark and with alligatored patina. $100. Heddon Bait Casting Rod 1910 circa - 6' 2/2 Very old Heddon that is in need of restoration. It is quite early with the 1908 patent date and Dowagiac on the reel seat and the bass decal that says Dowagiac. Varnish is poor, butt section has a couple wraps that may be repair wraps and one tip may be short (it might be original, can't tell). Some guides missing as well as some intermediates. I have not been able to identify exactly which model is also a very high grade bait caster with fine metal craftsmanship and1/8" cork rings. $90 H. L. Leonard Bait Casting Rod 1910 circa - 5' 2/2 Very old Leonard in excellent unrestored condition. It is quite early and most rod collectors don't know that the bait casting rods were a VERY small part of the Leonard production... That means there aren't many of these rods! Some of the wraps have been replaced at one time or other. Agate stripping guides on each tip as well as clear/white agate tip tops too! NS ferrules with patent dates. Marked "The H L Leonard Rod, LEONARD & MILLS CO, MAKER" on the NS reel seat. Comes with an odd rod bag which might be original, but probably not... aluminum tube appears to be non-standard also but is in very good condition. Here's a very scarce rod that the lure guys will drool over... This rod should be mated with a Meek or Milam reel. $425 Heddon Bait caster 5.5' 2/1 Post 1924 rod in good condition but needs a few wraps redone and a little TLC. NS ferrules and reel seat. This one has the 1/8" cork rings on the front grip and 1/2" rings on the grip, partial bass Heddon decal remaining and agate guides and tip top. One agate guide missing. These rods are real sleepers. $75 HEDDON Lyon & Coulson Imperial #0241 - 7' 2/1 Fly/Spinning rod. #17 "Black Beauty" grade. Nice brown tone, excellent quality throughout and black with gold tipping. Nickel Silver sliding bands and quality japanned NS ferrules are hand welted. Tip section has a slight fishing set. E-chatted with Michael Sinclair about this one and he mentioned that Heddon only made a spinning rod in their lineup only 1-2 years so this is indeed a very rare Heddon. $295 Project Bamboo Fly Rods Montague Rapidan - 9' 3/1 rod that is in very good+ condition excepting the butt/mid ferrules are cracked. I've found NS ferrules that are suitable replacements and are included... all sections full length and straight. There is a partial paper label on this rods grip so it was barely used. You install and save! $100. Sold. Montague Unmarked - 8.5' 3/2 all sections full length. Circa 1930's w/screwlock reelseat. Good 1st project rod. One micro-crack in female butt ferrule, one agate tip top incld. ferrules have some oxidation and need to be dressed. No delamination or cracks on the bamboo. The rod needs a few wraps, maybe a coat of varnish and go fishing. $90. Sold Montague Unmarked Handyman Special 8.5' 3/2 All sections full length. Ferrules corroded and butt ferrule cracked at base. Agate tip top, metal reel seat. Could be made fishable but might be a good parts rod. $80. Sold Unmarked Handyman Special 9' 3/1 All sections full length. Probably a H-I or Montague. 3 ferrules cracked at base but rod is still fishable as is. Metal reel seat. Could be made fishable but might be a good parts rod. $60. From low grade trade rods to high end rods such as Orvis, Granger, Powell and others... I'm too busy building my new web catalog and e-commerce shopping cart system to be able to take the time to list them... so if you are looking for a project rod, tell me what length and maker rod you are looking for, maybe I'll have what you want...
