The September 1999 Mid-Atlantic Rodmakers Gathering
Boiling Springs, PA.

Click on the images for the big picture. Please email me to give me data on who's who in the pictures... I just found this undeveloped roll of film and with the major loss of brain cells from my misguided youth, I just can't remember everyone (or I didn't meet everyone). I've got lot's of room for more pics if anyone wishes to add some more from this gathering!

grouppic.JPG (24162 bytes) 1) The Gathering

John Z, Eileen & Harold Demarest, Chris Bogart, Tom Whittle, Jerry Girard, Marty DeSapio, Ron Barsh, David & Lucy Fitch, Joe Byrd, Art Port, me....

alsbeveler.JPG (19486 bytes) 2) Al Medved Beveller (someone please correct my spelling!) Al crafted some beautiful rods with rattan grips... can't find that roll of film either... drats!
demarestlee.JPG (10902 bytes) 3) Harold Demarest and me (Darrell Lee) twobevelers.JPG (19180 bytes) 4) Medved beveller in foreground. Anyone remember who made the beveller in the background?
makers.JPG (21419 bytes) 5) More rod makers

Bill Harms at L I think Joe Byrd at R

mill1.JPG (26851 bytes) 6) Another demo of more toys. Help me name these guys!

Dennis Haftel at left. Jerry Girard right of middle

casting1.JPG (12697 bytes) 7) Hey, we even got to cast a few rods and do a little fishing nearby! pmq1.JPG (8396 bytes) 8) Tom Smithwick, one of the most ingenious rod makers... demo-ing the construction of the "Poor Man's Quad"

Also Chili Chef Extraordinaire!

casting2.JPG (18421 bytes) 9) Lawn casting. pmq2.JPG (8717 bytes) 10) PMQ, a two strip, four sided rod that doesn't require a planing form, no binder and the minimum of equipment... Note the ferrule is just left of the glue jig... I'm talking about the roll of black electrical tape...
zimmy.JPG (17670 bytes) 11) John Zimny, Chris Bogart & Bill Fink among others... from R to L pmq3.JPG (8793 bytes) 12) PMQ, No binder... just LOTS of small clamps, Elmers glue, electrical tape... hence the name...
rodmakersrod.JPG (17828 bytes) 13) The Rod Makers Rod. The components were made by twelve different rod makers and was quite a sight to behold.

I believe this was a Vince Marinaro taper.

scarysharp.JPG (15872 bytes) 14) Art Port demo-ing the "Scary Sharp" plane sharpening method

Art, the pic was BIG... so big I was able to read your name tag to confirm your identity!

Thanks BIG GUY!

Frankenrod1.jpg (321213 bytes) 15) The finished PMQ. Tom actually used a ferrule but it was a cheap plated one in keeping with the spirit on economy.
