How do I place an order?

If you're new to bamboo rods or this website, I recommend that you first go to homepage then go to the Bamboo Rod Restoration Checklist located in on the right hand links and print out a copy. Write down the items you want on the printed page then when you're done shopping, write me an email with your shipping address and list those items you want and I'll calculate the total including shipping and answer any questions you may have. Go to the nav links on the side and look for the e-mail icon.

Next, go to the online catalog and you can now conveniently purchase items using your Visa or Mastercard online. I also accept paypal, U.S. checks, bank/cashiers checks, Postal Money Orders and  International Postal Money Orders in U.S. Dollars only and credit cards using the PayPal.com system. If you register with PayPal using one of my links, you'll get a $5.00 signing bonus.

How and why should I consign items with you?

Contact us by e-mail and we'll send you information on our consignment terms and conditions page for your review. Our results have been outstanding usually selling clients consignment items for a significantly higher price than they would ordinarily obtain on their own and ALL of our consignment customers have been very pleased with our services. Example - Client lives in Taiwan and tried to sell his F. E. Thomas Fly Rod at least 3 times on an auction service and either got no bids or the buyer refused to complete the purchase because of concern over the seller delivering the rod to the U.S. This rod, sold for 30% more than he was offered with over 35 bids placed on the rod. The buyers know me and are confident of my accurate descriptions and inspection guarantee and are willing to pay top dollar. For consignment information, click here.

I have a rod that I need help identifying or valuating?

If you are looking for help in identifying a rod or are looking for help in valuating a rod, go to the Name That Rod link. Then post a message and be sure  you tell us the assembled length, the length of each section, how many sections, the condition of the varnish, color of the wraps, ferrules, reel seat and if it included the original bag and tube. Also you need to describe any and all markings, decals, writing, stamping on any and all parts no matter how obscure it may seem to you. If you don't do a good job of describing a rod, you may not get any responses... Please post your questions here instead of emailing me directly. There are many experts that are happy to help you with identifying the rod that visit the forums. Please be sure to state that you want a valuation or identification  information... be specific as to what you are trying to find out... Too often people state "I want to know more about my rod" the usual reply is "what do you want to know..."

Who is Darrell Lee?

I'm the owner/developer/collector/dealer/shipping clerk for this web site. My love for collecting and restoring bamboo rods and vintage tackle compelled me to learn web site development and so as a way to learn web building, I built this web site. I've been in the Real Estate brokerage business for nearly 20 years and have owned my own real estate and mortgage companies. 1987 President of the local Board of Realtors, awarded Realtor of the Year. Officer or Director of the local Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital, Multiple listing service, Calif. Assoc. of Realtors, builder of custom homes and blah, blah and so on... Your typical workaholic. When the real estate market crashed six years ago, I decided to take six months off and play... For a few weeks I traveled the country West of the Mississippi to go rock climbing and fish some of the most beautiful parts of the country.  Had such a grand time I decided to extend my hiatus. Well, when the rates dropped, I jumped back into the mortgage lending biz for about a year writing as many as 110+ loans a month... What a pain in the rear! You can't imagine how much paperwork that creates! That's a monthly loan volume of over $20 million per month or nearly a quarter BILLION dollars of loans annualized... That was more than most credit unions... I hated every minute of it so after about a year or so in that rat race, I went back on hiatus and discovered the internet! After I get this site fully e-commerce enabled and most of the kinks worked out, my next site will be a mortgage loan site. Yes, there's a million of them already, but I only want a small slice of the pie out there.  So, here I am, glued in front of my monitor... No, I'm not making the big bucks playing web builder, but no stress, making a lot of cool i-friends, I enjoy the challenge and if I could just figure out a neat site to grab some of that pre-IPO cash floating around...  Anyways, call me crazy, but I love those old bamboo rods and vintage tackle and I love to work on my web sites! So, I hope you'll visit here often, subscribe to my tackle list on the home page and if you've got some spare change, pick up a book or a rod from me... I'm very grateful of everyone's business!!!

What is Anglers Collectibles Exchange?

Anglers Collectibles Exchange, I call ACE, was originally spawned from my first freebie site at www.bamboorods.homepage.com but I got real tired of the long name, ad banners and slow load times so I broke down and am now paying for this commercial site and as you know the URL is www.vfish.net . I built this site for collectors, buyers, sellers and fishermen who appreciate split bamboo fly rods as I do and as a place we can share information, discuss and trade bamboo rods, tools, books and supplies. Actually, the site actually started from my search to find some silk thread for a Granger Special rod I was trying to restore.  The frustrating 1-2 year search for the thread is what was the catalyst for starting the site.  Today, it is a very large site and growing all the time. I now have the largest selection of new and vintage silk thread in the world!

Currently, my inventory and product line is becoming quite large as well. I currently have about 100-200 bamboo rods available for purchase.... the majority are still not listed on the site so if you are looking for a particular rod, I might have it but it may not be listed anywhere. I have Leonards, Payne, Granger, South Bend, Montague, H-I, FE Thomas, Uslan, Edwards, Shakespeare, Heddon, Orvis and many antique rods as well.

Where are you located?

I live in the foothills of Hollywood, California... the land of the stars!  Believe it or not, the infamous Heidi Fleiss live directly across the street from me...  Chuck Berry about 5 blocks South and Gyspy Rose Lee (no relation) used to live about a block up the street. I live in a canyon at the base of Griffith Park, the largest park in Los Angeles.

I work out of my house and I use a Post Office Box for my mailing address for several reasons. 1). When I'm not home, delivery people will sometimes throw packages over my 9 foot tall gate and so the rods and fragile items could get damaged if I'm not home to receive the packages and 2). By using the P.O. Box,  shipments are more secure as they will not be left outside if I'm not home and there is much better tracking by using the post office for pickup. 3). It was very difficult trying to get packages requiring a signature because the mail carrier would keep the package in the truck several days and then it would go to the post office anyway so it would delay my receiving packages sometimes by over a week... My mailing address is:
